Science Academy Science Communication Expo
Teens | Adults

A collection of short talks, films, shows & podcasts on a range of interesting science topics. Presented by Yr. 13 Science Academy students.

The Otago University Science Academy recruits Year 13 students from rural, provincial, small, and formerly lower decile schools across New Zealand and hosts them for two one-week long science camps (January and July). A major component of Science Academy is introducing them to some basic skills in communicating science to a public audience.

Between the two camps, the students research and prepare either a short engaging public talk, science film, show or podcast. For most of them this is their first time taking on the daunting challenge of presenting an aspect of science they are passionate about or find intriguing to a public audience.

Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Come and give them your support as they take on this most important aspect of being a 21st century scientist.
