Hub: Learn how we can help the bugs, bees and butterflies that live in lawns and grassy parts of the Town Belt.
Did you know nearly 97% of all our invertebrate species in New Zealand live nowhere else?
Invertebrates perform lots of essential roles in our ecosystems such as pollinating flowers, being food for birds and breaking down dead plants.
Town Belt Kaitiaki is a student-led programme for schools and ECEs that are close to the Dunedin Town Belt. Our student leadership team (School Year 6 to 13) will have a stall about invertebrates that like to live in the grass, in and around the Dunedin Town Belt. What species have we found that might live in your lawn? Is there an ideal grass length for invertebrates?
Come check out our table for fun facts and interactive activities led by the students of TBK.
