Hub: Last year at NZISF we Bioblitzed.. Here's a chance to learn what was discovered by looking at Ōtepoti's leaves through a magnetic lens.

Have you ever wondered if the air is cleaner in parks compared to busy roads? We’re finding out!

Visit us at the Festival Hub to learn about what was discovered at last year's Magnetic Leaves Bioblitz, and associated investigations.

We explored Woodhaugh Gardens and surrounding area, working together to find and identify as many plant species as possible. But this wasn’t just about spotting pretty plants – we’re on a mission to uncover the hidden story of Dunedin’s air quality.

Plant leaves collect magnetic airborne particles, most of which are sourced from vehicle pollution. By measuring the magnetic properties of these leaves, we can assess air pollution levels in different settings.

Join researchers from the Department of Geology at University of Otago to learn the basics of biomagnetic monitoring and explore how our neighbourhood vegetation can contribute to cutting edge research.
